Working on a new book
Over the past few months, I’ve been working on a new illustrated book, which is also part of my final project in my studies. I’ll be finishing my design studies this July, and my bachelor’s thesis is all about illustration. For this project, I brought together two things I really love: nature and drawing.
Writing the text
It took me a while to find a topic that hasn’t already been done a lot in children’s books and that I personally find exciting. My book is about the last wild places on Earth and is meant to show kids how beautiful and important these areas are.
Sketching phase
Since I’m not a trained writer, I took my time writing the text and making sure I was happy with it. Once that part was done, I could finally start the illustration process, which I’d been really looking forward to. To get a good overview of the 80 pages, I made small sketches on A3 sheets. That really helped me see if the layout worked well.
Next Step: Color
Now I’ve started adding color, and it’s finally all coming to life!
I still have about 40 pages left to finish. So I will be going back to painting again.
lots of love, Barbara
